Esperanto was a Belgo-English band formed in 1971 by violinist Raymond Vincent, who was the leader of the Wallace Collection, and pianist Bruno Libert. The band included Glenn Shorrock, who later joined Little River Band, along with former Cliff Richard backup singers Joy Yates, Janice Slater, and Bridget Dudoit. They also featured a string section with second violinist Godfrey Salmon, violist Tony Harris, and cellist Timothy Kraemer. Their first album, "Esperanto Rock Orchestra," was released in 1973. After Glenn Shorrock's departure, he was replaced by Keith Christmas for their second LP, "Danse Macabre," which was produced by King Crimson's Pete Sinfield and released in 1974. The lineup underwent significant changes for their third LP, "Last Tango," produced by Robin Geoffrey Cable and released in 1975. Following the retraction of the record industry after the oil crisis of 1973-1974, A&M did not renew their contract, leading to the disbandment of Esperanto.
