Eurythmics is a British synthpop duo consisting of Annie Lennox (b. December 25, 1954, Aberdeen, UK) and Dave Stewart (b. September 9, 1952, Sunderland, UK). They first recorded together as members of a new wave band that would change its name and achieve two UK top ten hits in early 1980, but disbanded before the year ended. In 1981, Lennox and Stewart debuted as Eurythmics, initially struggling to gain recognition until their sixth single, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)," became a turning point in their career. Throughout the 1980s, they emerged as one of the leading synth pop groups. After a long period of solo activities in the early and mid-90s, Eurythmics reunited for one album and a charity world tour in 1999, and again in 2004 for the release of extended, remastered editions of their previous albums and a second hits compilation. They released one song under the alias The Spheres Of Celestial Influence, a name considered before adopting Eurythmics, which refers to the Dalcroze eurhythmics pedagogical exercise system that Lennox encountered as a child.
