Eyes of Blue, originally formed as The Mustangs, emerged in the mid-sixties from Neath, Wales, UK. The early lineup featured Wyndham Rees (Vocals), Ray Williams (Guitar), Ritchie Francis (Bass), Melvyn Davies (Guitar), and David Thomas (Drums). Thomas joined the band in October 1964, replacing Byron Phillips, and shortly after, Melvyn Davies left, reducing the group to a four-piece. Initially a soul-based R&B band, Eyes of Blue quickly gained a strong reputation within the South Wales music scene. In early 1966, drummer Thomas departed, and John Weathers was brought in as a temporary replacement. Keyboard player Phil Ryan, also from Neath-based band the Smokestacks, and vocalist Gary Pickford-Hopkins later joined the band. The writing credits were often attributed to L. Glas, short for Lygaid Glas, which means Eyes of Blue in Welsh.
