Fairuz, born on November 21, 1934, in Beirut, began her musical career as a chorus member at the Lebanese Radio Station. By the late 1950s, her talent as a singer was fully acknowledged. Her early songs showcased her distinct vocal timbre, with lyrics expressing romantic love and nostalgia for village life, complemented by a delicate orchestral blend of Arab and European instruments, along with popular dance rhythms. She also adapted Arab folk tunes in her performances. By the early 1960s, Fairuz had become one of the main attractions at the annual Baalbeck Festivals and a celebrity throughout the Arab world. The dissemination of her hundreds of songs, numerous musical plays, and several films expanded her audience to include Arabs living in Europe and the Americas. Throughout most of her career, she worked closely with the two Rahbani brothers as part of a three-member team. Fairuz was married and had four children: Layal Rahbani, Hali Rahbani, and Rima Rahbani.
