Fat Freddy's Drop is a renowned live band from New Zealand, known for their unique ability to constantly tweak their songs, ensuring that no two performances are alike. This seven-piece group has evolved from funk jam bands to incorporate reggae soundsystems, jazz improvisation, and live techno, earning them a respected place in the music scene. In 2004, they were awarded Best Live Act at the b-Net NZ Music Awards. They have toured extensively across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and Europe, and have established international partnerships with London's Kartel Records and Berlin's Sonar Kollektiv. Their original CD, "Live at the Matterhorn," achieved Gold status, selling over 11,000 copies through word of mouth alone. Their debut studio album, "Based On A True Story," released in May 2005, has enjoyed chart success in New Zealand and received Five Star reviews. The band consists of Chris Faiumu (DJ Fitchie, Mu) as the band leader, effects, drum programming, and synthesizers; Dallas Tamaira (Joe Dukie) as the lyricist and vocalist; Scott Towers (Chopper Reedz) on saxophone; Toby Laing (Tony Chang) on trumpet; Joe Lindsay (Ho Pepa) on trombone; Conway Jeune (C-Way Green) on guitar; and Iain Gordon (Kuki Blaze) on analogue keyboard, piano, and synthesizers.
