Fela Ransome-Kuti, commonly known as Fela Kuti, was a Nigerian musician, bandleader, and political activist. He was born on October 15, 1938, in Abeokuta, Nigeria, and passed away on August 2, 1997. Fela is best known for pioneering the genre of Afrobeat, which combines traditional Nigerian music, jazz, funk, and highlife. He was also a vocal critic of the Nigerian government and used his music as a platform to address social and political issues.
