Felt is an English indie pop band from Water Orton, Warwickshire, formed by Lawrence who recorded their first single, "Index," on his own label in 1979. The band's early releases through Cherry Red Records featured the playing of a classically trained guitarist. Despite receiving critical acclaim and achieving a #1 indie single with "Primitive Painters," they never achieved mainstream success but have maintained a cult following. After guitarist Deebank left in 1986, Felt signed to Creation Records and released "Forever Breathes The Lonely Word," which is considered one of their highlights and one of the best pop albums of the decade. Over the next ten years, they released ten albums, fulfilling Lawrence's 1980 prophecy. In the mid-80s, they occasionally performed live under the name "The Scarlet Servants."
