Fern Kinney, born Fern Kinney-Lewis on July 11, 1949, in Jackson, Mississippi, is an American southern soul and disco singer. She began her career in the mid-1960s and released her first solo single, "Your Love Is Not Reliable," in 1968. Throughout the 1970s, Kinney provided backup vocals for various artists. In the late 1970s, she transitioned to a solo career, beginning with the duet "Sweet Life" in 1978. Between 1979 and 1982, she released three solo albums, all produced by notable figures in the southern soul scene. Kinney's biggest hits include "Groove Me" and "Together We Are Beautiful." She has also successfully covered "Let The Good Times Roll" and "I've Been Lonely For So Long." After her initial success, she returned to backup singing in the 1980s.
