Ferruccio Busoni (1 April 1866 – 27 July 1924) was a renowned Italian composer, pianist, music editor, writer, and pedagogue, born in Empoli, Italy. He was the son of a clarinetist and a pianist, and he had two sons, Benvenuto and Raffaello Busoni. The Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, established in 1949 to commemorate his 25th anniversary, is considered one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. Busoni had a prolific career as a pianist and composer across Europe, Russia, and the United States, collaborating with many notable musicians, artists, and thinkers of his time. A child prodigy, he was initially trained by his parents and studied at the Vienna Conservatory between 1875 and 1877, later training under a teacher in Leipzig. He settled in Berlin in 1894, which became his home base. He recorded acoustic piano performances in November 1919 and February 1922, which were released by Columbia on 78 RPM shellac discs. In 2002, surviving material was digitally restored for a CD compilation. Busoni began composing in early childhood, completing over 200 original pieces before the age of twenty. His mature catalog includes over 100 works, including symphonic suites, concertos, solo piano pieces, and chamber music. He is particularly known for his monumental "Bach-Busoni Editions," a series
