**First Choice Bio** First Choice is a female vocal trio that originated in Philadelphia. The group initially gained recognition with their breakthrough hit "Armed and Extremely Dangerous." Originally known as the Debonettes, the members, including Chester, PA native Malanie McSears, performed around Philadelphia before transitioning to their more famous name. Lead singer Rochelle Fleming and Annette Guest were part of a vocal quintet while attending Overbrook High School. They began their journey by rehearsing at Guest's mother's house and participating in talent shows. After being introduced to Philly soul guitarist, songwriter, and producer by WDAS Radio DJ Georgie Woods, they entered the recording studio with a lineup that included Fleming, Guest, Wardell Piper, and McSears. Their first release, "This Is the House Where Love Died," was issued in 1972 but did not chart nationally. Shortly thereafter, McSears left the group. In 1973, First Choice signed with the Philly Groove label, distributed by Bell Records. Their next single, "Armed and Extremely Dangerous," became their first major hit, reaching number 11 on the R&B charts and also making the Top 20 in the UK. During this time, another member exited, and Joyce Jones joined the group. The single "Smarty Pants," which addressed unwanted pregnancy, reached number 25 on the R&B charts.
