Fog Lake is the musical alias of Aaron Powell, an artist from Newfoundland, Canada. Initially conceived as an ambient project, Fog Lake evolved into a blend of dark, nostalgic lo-fi rock and indie pop, which Powell describes as downer pop. The first release under the Fog Lake name was the 2012 compilation "There’s A Spirit, There’s A Soul," featuring ambient and drone recordings made during Powell's high school years. The first proper Fog Lake album, "Farther Reaches," was released in January 2013, followed by the "Holy Cross" EP later that year, which received a cassette release through Birdtapes. In February 2014, Powell released his second album, "Virgo Indigo," through Orchid Tapes, marking his first full-length album released by a label. He continued to work with Orchid Tapes for his subsequent albums, "Victoria Park" (2015) and "Dragonchaser" (2017). The fifth Fog Lake album, "Captain," was released in July 2018 by Stack Your Roster on cassette and Dog Knights Productions on vinyl. His sixth album, "Tragedy Reel," was released in April 2021, again through Orchid Tapes.
