Fonó Zenekar, established in Budapest in 1997, is a Hungarian folk ensemble dedicated to the authentic performance, teaching, and research of traditional music from Hungary and the Carpathian Basin. Comprising musicians from various Hungarian regions, including minority areas in Slovakia and Ukraine, the band integrates field-collected melodies into their repertoire, ensuring a genuine representation of the region's musical heritage. Their collaborations span genres such as classical string music, opera, modern jazz, world music, and authentic klezmer, resulting in numerous acclaimed recordings. Notably, their album "Mixtura Cultivalis" received the "Choc de l’Année" award from Le Monde de la Musique, and in 2006, they were honored with the eMeRTon award by Hungarian Radio and Television.
