Francisco Meirino, born in 1975, has been active since 1994 under the name phroq until 2009. He is a sound artist and live performer who explores the tension between programmable material and its potential for failure. His work primarily involves the computer, eurorack modular synthesizer, magnetic field detectors, reel-to-reel tape recorders, piezo transducers, and various acoustic devices. Meirino is particularly interested in recording phenomena that are not intended, such as gear failures, the death of PA systems, magnetic fields, electro-static noises, and EVP recordings. His music is noted for its physical intensity and detailed precision. Over the years, he has performed more than 150 live shows at various venues and festivals across Europe, Japan, and North America. He has collaborated with notable artists including Leif Elggren, Nicolas Bernier, Gerritt Wittmer, ILIOS, Dave Phillips, Scott Arford, Michael Gendreau, Michael Esposito, Astro, Randy H.Y. Yau, Lasse Marhaug, Mike Shiflet, Jason Kahn, and Kiko C. Esseiva. Meirino has received commissions for his music from organizations such as Cindy Van Acker Cie Greffe, Pro-Helvetia (Switzerland), Radio Airplane (Japan), and Mostra d'Art Sonor i Visual de Barcelona (Spain).
