Franco Battiato, born Francesco Battiato on March 23, 1945, in Ionia, Italy, was an influential Italian singer-songwriter, composer, musician, and painter. He had a diverse career spanning from the mid-1960s until his passing on May 18, 2021, in Milo. Battiato began his journey in music with several singles that did not achieve significant success, initially releasing music under his real name. He moved from his native Sicily to Milan around 1965. In 1970, after a brief collaboration with the Osage Tribe, he secured a record deal with Bla Bla, releasing his first solo album, "Fetus," in 1972. This album featured a minimalist sound characterized by the VCS3 synth and complex arrangements. His follow-up album, "Pollution," achieved greater success, reaching the Top Ten of the Italian charts. With his third album, "Sulle Corde Di Aries," Battiato's sound evolved towards a more avant-garde style, while his fourth album, "Clic," was primarily instrumental. It received an English release through the Island label, featuring different versions of tracks from his earlier works. The 1975 album "M.lle Le Gladiator" continued in the avant-garde direction, and his subsequent releases until 1978 focused on long instrumental performances closer to contemporary music.
