Françoise Guimbert, born on June 7, 1945, in Saint-Benoît, Réunion, was a pioneering figure in Maloya music on the island. She worked as a maid before achieving success on stage. Guimbert began her singing career in the 1970s, collaborating with various musicians. It was through her work with notable artists that she showcased her unique voice and poignant lyrics. Her interpretation of Maloya is characterized by a haunting, bluesy quality, with her hoarse voice conveying deep melancholy and intensity. She passed away in her hometown on March 25, 2022.
