Frank Owens was an American pianist born in 1933, who passed away on September 15, 2023. He served as the musical director for renowned artists such as Petula Clark, Lena Horne, Johnny Mathis, Connie Francis, and John Denver. Owens received a gold disc for his work on Tony Orlando and Dawn's international hit "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree." As a composer, he co-wrote the musical revue "Shades of Harlem," which was released as a double CD in the USA in 2001. Owens was the pianist and musical director for Petula Clark for a decade during the latter half of the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s. He was featured on her live recordings at the Albert Hall in 1969 and 1974. Additionally, he wrote the music for the song "Special People," with lyrics by Petula, which appeared on her 1967 LP "Colour My World/This Is My Song." He also made an appearance with her on The Ed Sullivan Show. In 1980, he took on the role of musical director for the David Letterman TV Show in New York City. Throughout his career, Owens released several solo CDs.
