Frankie Beverley was an American singer, songwriter, and producer, born on December 6, 1946, in North Philadelphia. He passed away on September 10, 2024, at the age of 77. At the age of nine, he was influenced by a significant figure in his life, earning him the nickname "Little Frankie." Beverley first led a short-lived a cappella doo-wop group called The Blenders. In 1963, he founded The Butlers and recorded for various labels. In 1970, he started a new band called Raw Soul, which gained recognition when Janis Hunter introduced them to her fiancé, Marvin Gaye. Impressed by their talent, Gaye invited them to open for him on his I Want You tour and encouraged them to change their name to Maze. Maze signed with Capitol Records in 1977.
