Frankie Crocker was born on December 18, 1937, in Buffalo, NY, and passed away on October 21, 2000, in North Miami Beach, Florida. He began his radio career at WUFO in Williamsville, NY, while studying pre-law. Crocker later moved to WWRL, a soul station in New York, before joining top-40 station WMCA in 1969. He became the program director at WBLS-FM, leading the station to the top of the ratings during the late 1970s. Known as "Hollywood," Crocker served as MC and announcer for various concert tours, hosted events at the Apollo Theater, and worked as a VJ on VH-1. He also appeared in five films, including "Cleopatra Jones" and "Darktown Strutters."
