Frankie Goes to Hollywood was an English pop group formed in Liverpool, UK, in 1980. The original members included William (vocals, born February 19, 1960), an unnamed member (vocals, keyboards, born December 8, 1959), another unnamed member (guitar, born May 20, 1963), another unnamed member (drums, born March 8, 1964), and another unnamed member (bass, born January 6, 1964). The band gained notoriety after the BBC 1 Radio DJ banned their hit single "Relax," which went on to become a smash hit across Europe and the USA. The phrase "Frankie Says" became a popular fashion statement, and each subsequent release by the band that year, including two singles and a double-LP, debuted at number one in England. Their follow-up album, "Liverpool," was released in October 1986 but did not achieve the same sales success as their debut album, "Welcome To The Pleasuredome." In 1987, Johnson left the band to pursue a solo career, and following litigation, ZTT lost their claim of contract-breaking against him. Rutherford also quit, leading to a diminished group that eventually disbanded. The original line-up reunited to perform "Welcome To The Pleasure Dome" during the National Lottery's Big Eurovision Welcome concert on May 7, 2023.
