**Frankie Ruiz Bio** Real Name: Jose Antonio Torresola Ruiz Born: March 10, 1958, in Paterson, New Jersey Frankie Ruiz was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, where his parents moved from Puerto Rico in search of a better life. He received his primary and secondary education in Paterson and developed a passion for singing salsa music as a child. As a young man, he joined a local band called The Charlie Lopez Orchestra, where he recorded his first song, "Salsa Buena." In 1976, following his parents' divorce, he moved to Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, with his mother. In Puerto Rico, Ruiz became a fan of the salsa band La Solucion, directed by Roberto Rivera. He learned all their songs and attended their concerts. His mother once asked Rivera to give her son a chance to sing in the band, but it was not until 1977, when the lead singer missed a show, that Rivera gave Ruiz an opportunity. He performed well and was hired by the band, re-recording "Salsa Buena" and recording his first hit single "La Rueda" during his three years with La Solucion. In 1980, Ruiz joined Tommy Olivencia and his Primerisima Orchestra, where his youth and style, known as Sensual Salsa, attracted a new generation of salsa fans.
