Franz Ferdinand is a band formed in Glasgow in 2002. The band's name was inspired by a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand, which won the Northumberland Plate in 2001. After witnessing the horse's victory, the band members discussed Archduke Franz Ferdinand and decided it would be a fitting name due to the alliteration and the historical significance of the Archduke's assassination, which played a crucial role in the events leading up to World War I.
