Franz Lizst
Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, music teacher, arranger, organist, philanthropist, author, nationalist, and a Franciscan tertiary. Born on October 22, 1811, in Doborján, Austria-Hungary (present-day Raiding, Austria), he passed away on July 31, 1886, in Bayreuth, Germany. Liszt was a renowned performer throughout Europe, celebrated for his showmanship and exceptional skill at the piano, and is often regarded as one of the greatest pianists in history. His musical innovation ventured into largely unexplored territories, particularly in harmonic research, as evidenced by his late piano works that anticipated elements of early twentieth-century harmonies. His preference for program music is reflected in the numerous symphonic poems he composed.
