Fred Armisen is an American comedian, actor, author, producer, and musician, born on December 4, 1966, in Valley Stream, New York. He is of German, Japanese, and Venezuelan descent. Armisen played drums for various bands in 1988 and throughout the 1990s, and in 1997, he toured with a band featuring notable musicians. In 1998, he created a short film titled "Fred Armisen's Guide To Music And South By Southwest" before venturing into stand-up comedy. He was a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" from 2002 to 2013. Between 2010 and 2018, he co-created the TV show "Portlandia" with a collaborator, and they also perform as ThunderAnt. In 2015, he launched the mockumentary series "Documentary Now!" for IFC, working alongside other creatives. Since 2014, Armisen has served as the music director and sometimes bandleader and drummer for a late-night TV show. He has also directed music videos for various bands and made appearances in them.
