Fred Fisher was a German-born American songwriter and music publisher, born on September 3, 1875, in Cologne, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1900 after visiting in 1892 and adopted the name Fred "Fischer." In 1907, he founded a publishing company and later changed his surname to "Fisher" during World War I to appear less Germanic. He married Ana Fisher (née Davidovitch, later anglicized as Davis) in 1914. They had three children, all of whom wrote songs professionally. Fred Fisher was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970, recognized for his remarkable work, including the lyrics to "Peg O' My Heart." He passed away on January 14, 1942, in New York City, New York.
