Freddie McCoy was an American soul jazz vibraphonist born on November 29, 1932, in New York City. His interest in the vibraphone began while he was stationed in the army in 1958. He started his career as a sideman for an organist before recording six solo albums and one solo track on a short-lived jazz imprint. Feeling that his talent went unnoticed, he left the music industry and settled in Africa, where he lived for over four decades. McCoy passed away at the age of 76 on September 27, 2009, in Morocco, Africa.
