Freddie North was born on May 28, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, and passed away on October 15, 2025. He began his singing career with the vocal group the Rookies before embarking on a solo career in the 1960s. His debut single, “OK, So What?,” was produced by Buddy Killen and featured prominent country session players. In addition to his music career, North worked in sales and promotion for Nashboro and Excello Records and made appearances on the Nashville R&B TV show “Night Train.” His most significant commercial success came in 1971 with the song “She’s All I Got,” co-written by Jerry “Swamp Dogg” Williams and Gary U.S. Bonds, which reached No. 10 on the R&B singles chart and No. 39 nationwide. In the late 1970s, North entered the ministry, serving in Brentwood, Tennessee, and later as the pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church near Murfreesboro until his retirement in 2018.
