The Free Design was a vocal group based in Delevan, New York, known for their jazzy pop music characterized as sunshine pop and baroque pop. The original lineup consisted of siblings Chris Dedrick, who wrote most of the songs, Sandy Dedrick, and Bruce Dedrick. Later, younger sisters Ellen and Stephanie Dedrick joined the group. The Free Design disbanded in 1972. In 2000, after nearly 30 years apart, the band reunited to record "Endless Harmony" for a Beach Boys tribute album titled "Caroline Now." This led to the release of a new full-length album, "Cosmic Peekaboo," in 2001, featuring the original lineup. Chris Dedrick passed away on August 6, 2010, at the age of 62 due to cancer.
