Freestyle Professors is a hip-hop crew formed by Branesparker and DJ G.W. Foxx, along with their homie Don-Q, who grew up in the Forrest Projects of South Bronx. Influenced by local acts such as Diamond D, Showbiz, Lord Finesse, and Fat Joe, the duo had intense sessions with members of DITC, with Lord Finesse teaching Spark how to use the SP-12. In 1992, they officially formed Freestyle Professors and established their own label, Freestyle Records, due to Spark's negative experiences with record labels. In 1994, they released their 8-track EP "Your Pockets Been P:cked," which became a milestone in the underground rap scene. Despite positive feedback, the group's work on an album was halted as personal responsibilities took precedence, leading Spark to feel disillusioned with the direction of hip-hop. Although each member pursued individual paths, they continued to collaborate on songs.
