Fresh Color is a Swiss group formed around 1978 in Aarau by guitarist Gutze Gautschi. Initially starting as a punk band, they featured Dieter Meier, who left after releasing two 7" singles, "Cry For Fame" (as 'Dieter Meier') and "No Chance" (as 'Fresh Color'). Meier later went on to form another project. Fresh Color continued to release further singles in a punk style. In the early 1980s, Gautschi reassembled the band, including a new drummer, and shifted towards new wave music. They began incorporating synthesizers and developed a distinct dubby production style. The alias "Frische Farbe" was created for releasing songs in German, with their debut longplayer "Die Stärke im Minimum" (1982) also credited to "Frische Farbe." By 1984, Fresh Color had reduced to a duo consisting of Gautschi and Danny Amsler. They merged their new wave background with disco and electro on singles like "Disco Nature" and "Get On Up." The group achieved their biggest success when vocalist and songwriter joined, leading to the hit "Disco Future" and the release of their second album, "Nightdreams," in 1985. Following this period, all three members engaged in producing various projects. At the end of the 1990s, Gautschi attempted to revive Fresh Color.
