Front 242 is a Belgian electronic music group formed in Aarschot in 1981 by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen. They released their first single in October 1981, with Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) and Patrick Codenys (synth) joining to complete the project. Daniel invited them to collaborate on the second single released in April 1982, and the band continued to develop, with Richard Jonckheere (Richard 23) contributing vocals, although he was not yet an official member at that time. Their debut album, "Geography," was released in December 1982. Richard 23 became more integrated into the group, particularly due to his dynamic stage presence, which contrasted with Dirk's. After Dirk left the band in April 1983, Front 242 gained popularity with several EBM albums. The term EBM, which stands for Electronic Body Music, was first used on their album but was not initially recognized as a genre name until promoted by a marketing concept in the late 1980s. The band built a strong live reputation with energetic performances in para-military outfits. In 1993, they underwent a significant style change, incorporating guest musicians and moving away from their military aesthetic to explore a mix of harder and softer sounds. After a period of relative silence, Front 242 re-emerged in the late 1990s with their "RE:BOOT" tour, offering modern, techno-influenced versions
