The Future Sound of London is a British duo that met in the 1980s in Manchester. Their influential discography showcases a wide range of influences, including acid house, hardcore techno, ambient, krautrock, and '60s psychedelica. Previously known as Dougans, they achieved a UK Top 10 hit before forming FSOL, where they scored major crossover success with their early work. Their first full-length album marked their dancefloor-friendly beginnings, after which FSOL transitioned into a more album-oriented approach. Their double-disc set featured long stretches of breakbeat-flavored ambience and was followed by an album that incorporated hip-hop, trip-hop, industrial textures, and bleak urban imagery. Their subsequent album compiled music from ISDN-uplinked radio broadcasts from the mid-1990s. After the release of "Dead Cities" in 1996, they felt they were moving in the wrong direction and went off the radar after a mix in mid-1997. Following a four-year hiatus, during which rumors of insanity and drug addiction circulated (the reality being mercury poisoning from dental fillings and soul-searching travels), they released a concept remix album in 2001, followed by a full-length album and further material under the Amorphous Androgynous name. In March 2007, they became independent and launched FSOLDigital.com, releasing dozens of unreleased tracks, as well as old and new material from their other aliases. One of the most anticipated albums
