Gabriel Garzón-Montano is a singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from New York, born to a Colombian father and a French mother. He began his musical journey by mastering the violin, guitar, and drums before turning to the piano and bass guitar to enhance his compositions. Gabriel graduated from SUNY Purchase's Music Conservatory, where he laid the groundwork for his debut EP, Bishoune: Alma del Huila. This EP is a heartfelt tribute to family, love, and the vibrant lifestyle of the city, featuring six songs recorded at Henry Hirsch's Waterfront Studios, which was transformed from an old church. Gabriel performed every clap, breath, harmony, and note directly to 2" tape through a Helios console in real time, with minimal use of computers. His work is characterized by a humble and urgent self-expression that reflects the natural limitations of a solo performer. The EP includes tracks like "Everything Is Everything," which captures the carefree essence of youth, and "Keep On Running," which contrasts that with the pressures of adulthood. The project also features a mix of groovy tracks and bittersweet ballads, such as "Naeja" and "Me Alone," the latter showcasing witty lyricism. "Pour Maman" offers a poignant reflection on motherhood, love, and loss.
