Galapagos Duck is a renowned jazz band that originated in 1969 while its members were performing at The Kosciusko Chalet, a skiing resort in New South Wales. The original lineup included Marty Mooney and Tom Hare on reeds, Chris Qua on bass and trumpet, and Des Windsor on piano and organ. After returning to Sydney, the band gained popularity in the Australian jazz scene during the 1970s, serving as the house band at 'The Basement,' a prominent jazz nightclub near Circular Quay. Galapagos Duck has toured extensively internationally and made numerous television appearances. They were also involved in film, writing and performing the soundtrack for 'The Removalist' and appearing in the Australian films 'Rebel' and 'Emerald City.' Today, they are considered the best-known jazz band in Australia and a household name throughout the country.
