Galina Grigorjeva, born in 1962 in Crimea, Ukraine, is a distinguished composer known for her choral, chamber instrumental, and orchestral works. She is a laureate of several awards, including the Heino Eller Award (2003), Eesti Kultuurkapital awards (2003 and 2013), and the Blagovest Foundation (2015). Grigorjeva is also an Ela ja sära scholar (2007) and was honored with the Order of the White Star IV degree in 2014. Her musical education began at the Simferopol Music College, followed by studies at the Odessa Conservatory under Professor Alexander Krasotov. She graduated from the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 1991, where she studied composition with Professor Yuri Falik. From 1994 to 1998, she pursued her master's degree at the Estonian Academy of Music with Professor Lepo Sumera. Currently, she is working towards her doctorate at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater while teaching composition and orchestration. Grigorjeva is recognized for her unique contribution to contemporary music, creating ethereal compositions deeply rooted in Slavonic and Western sacred music traditions. Her work has been described by Gramophone magazine as showcasing her skill in cadential suspense, embodying a modernist approach that honors the past. After emigrating to Estonia, she has continued to reside there as a freelance composer.
