Gandalf, born Heinz Strobl on December 4, 1952, in Pressbaum, Niederösterreich, Austria, is a renowned musician who describes himself as a "painter of musical landscapes." His name is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." A multi-instrumentalist, Gandalf plays a diverse range of self-owned instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, sitar, saz, charango, bouzuki, balaphon, piano, various synthesizers, sample-keyboards, and percussion instruments. He skillfully blends acoustic with electronic and atmospheric sounds, incorporating folk elements into symphonic structures, which has contributed to his status as one of today's most successful Austrian musicians on the international stage.
