Gary Burton is an American jazz vibraphonist, composer, and bandleader. He was born on January 4, 1943, in Anderson, Indiana. Burton is known for his innovative approach to the vibraphone, including the use of four mallets, which allows for greater harmonic complexity and melodic expression. He has been influential in the jazz genre since the 1960s and has collaborated with many notable musicians throughout his career.
