Gary Wright was an American singer/songwriter and keyboard player, born on April 26, 1943, in Cresskill, New Jersey, USA. He was a founding member of the UK sixties rock band Spooky Tooth. Wright began his career as a child actor, performing on Broadway in the musical "Fanny," before pursuing studies in medicine and psychology in New York City and Berlin. In 1959, he made his first commercial recording, credited to another name. After meeting a member of a band in Europe in 1967, he moved to London and formed Spooky Tooth, where he served as the principal songwriter. His solo album in 1971 coincided with the formation of a short-lived band. Throughout the 1970s, Wright released classic solo albums and became a sought-after session musician, collaborating with various artists. He worked as a producer after the breakup of Spooky Tooth and turned to film soundtrack work in the early 1980s. Additionally, he produced albums for himself and his son. Wright passed away on September 4, 2023, in Palos Verdes Estates, California, USA. He was married and was the father of one child. He was also known for his piano work on notable recordings.
