**Bio: Gasper Lawal** Born on September 23, 1948, in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria, Gasper Lawal is a renowned percussionist and band leader. He relocated to the UK in the mid-1960s, establishing himself in the London session scene and collaborating with a diverse array of musicians, including Ginger Baker’s Airforce, Stephen Stills, the Rolling Stones, George Clinton’s Funkadelic, and Barbra Streisand. In 1975, Lawal joined the London-based rock band Clancy but returned to Nigeria in 1977. He moved back to London in 1978, where he formed Afriki Sound (later known as the Drum Oro Band), blending traditional West African music with experimental rock and jazz influences. Lawal released two notable albums on his own Cap label: *Ajomase*, which translates to "We all have to do it together," featuring hit singles “Kita Kita” and “Oromoro,” and *Abiosunni*, meaning "Are you sleeping or what?!" These albums showcased prominent expatriate African musicians in London, including Olalekan Babolola, Tunji Omoshebi, Abdul Salongo, Don Amaechi, Ray Allen, and Mac Tontoh from Osibisa.
