Gene Barge was an American songwriter, producer, and talented saxophonist known for his work as both a tenor and alto musician. Born on August 9, 1926, in Norfolk, Virginia, he moved to Chicago in the 1960s, where he became a staff musician and producer with Chess Records. Throughout his career, he toured with notable artists including the Rolling Stones, Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, and his close friend Buddy Guy. Gene Barge passed away on February 2, 2025, in Bronzeville, Chicago.
