Gene Latter, born Arthur Ford in Cardiff, Wales, was an ex-boxer hailing from South William Street in Butetown (Tiger Bay). He began his career as a musician with a local band called "The Alley Cats" before moving to London in search of greater opportunities. In London, he joined the popular group "The Shake Spears," performing as their vocalist from early 1965 until February 1966. Later, in late 1966, he recorded a single with the Merseyside band "The Anzaks" and worked with another Liverpool group, "The Detours," in 1968. Gene then embarked on a solo career, releasing several 45s until the early 1980s. He passed away in 2004.
