Gene Watson is an American country music singer born on October 11, 1943, in Palestine, Texas. He was one of seven children in a family where his father worked as a sawmill worker and crop picker. Watson achieved significant success on the U.S. country charts, charting 48 times between 1975 and 1997. His career began to take off with his first big hit, "Love In The Hot Afternoon," which reached #3 in 1975. He scored his first #1 hit in 1981 with "Fourteen Carat Mind," and his song "You're Out Doing What I'm Here Doing Without" climbed to #2 in 1983. Throughout his career, he had a total of twenty top 10 country hits. The Farewell Party Band has served as his long-time backing band.
