Genesis P-Orridge was a British singer/songwriter, musician, writer, and artist, born on 22 February 1950 in Manchester, England. They legally changed their name by deed poll to Genesis P-Orridge on 5 January 1971. Throughout their career, they challenged social boundaries through art and played a significant role in redefining music. As a core member of their band, they brought these challenges to the mainstream, becoming influential in the UK's dance music sub-culture. Genesis courted controversy with their provocative art, including images of piercings featured in the RE:Search book "Modern Primitives." Their experimental video projects resulted in an eight-year exile from the UK. A near-death experience led them to engage in extreme body modification alongside their wife, Lady Jaye, as they sought to embody the concept of the 'pandrogyne.' In 2003, Genesis P-Orridge changed their identity to Genesis/Djin Breyer P-Orridge. They passed away on 14 March 2020 in New York City, USA, at the age of 70.
