**Bio: George Hughley** George Hughley, originally from Louisiana, moved to Atlanta in 1954 at the age of 11 after the tragic death of his grandparents in a car accident. He initially lived with his mother but was soon sent to stay with extended family. During this time, Hughley developed a passion for playing guitar and writing songs. He formed a band with friends for the Howard High School talent show, where he caught the attention of DJ Sonny Woods from WAOK radio, who became his manager. The legendary Joe Carpenter joined the band on guitar. Hughley recalls record producer Wendell Parker arriving in town with $20,000 to promote his music. Throughout his career, various iterations of his band opened for iconic artists such as Joe Tex, Irma Thomas, Big Joe Turner, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and Tina Turner. At just 15 years old, Hughley wrote "It Hurts Me Too," which became his first recording at 18, released on 7” vinyl in 1961 with backup vocals from Gladys Knight’s Pips. This early success led to a deal with Buddah Records, known for its roster of heavyweights, where he continued to release singles.
