George Jackson was an American songwriter and producer born on March 12, 1945, in Mississippi, USA. He began his music career in the early 1960s, recording for Ike Turner's label and touring extensively throughout the decade. Eventually, he settled in Muscle Shoals, where he worked as a writer and producer at Fame Recording Studios. One of his most notable achievements was writing "One Bad Apple," which became a number one hit in 1971 and a million-selling pop classic. Jackson also wrote or co-wrote several other hit songs for artists such as Candi Staton, Clarence Carter, and James Brown's "It's Too Funky In Here," as well as Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock And Roll" and Wilson Pickett's "A Man And A Half." He passed away on April 14, 2013, at his home in Ridgeland, Mississippi, from cancer, at the age of 68.
