Georges Arvanitas was a French jazz pianist and organist, born on June 13, 1931, in Marseille, France, and he passed away on September 25, 2005. Renowned for his ability to blend various styles of piano jazz, Arvanitas drew inspiration from numerous American jazz musicians who visited France, including Mezz Mezzrow, Bill Coleman, Don Byas, Buck Clayton, and James Moody. After World War II, he became a key figure in the French jazz scene, performing in iconic Parisian clubs such as Tabou, Club Saint-Germain, and the Blue Note. He later began releasing records under his own name and collaborated with a wide array of esteemed jazz artists throughout his career. In addition to his jazz work, Arvanitas was heavily involved in the variety music scene as a studio musician, notably playing the organ on Serge Gainsbourg’s famous track "Je T'Aime, Moi Non Plus." He was also sought after by Michel Legrand for several original soundtracks, reflecting his significant contribution to music.
