Geraldo Azevedo, born on January 11, 1945, in Petrolina, is a Brazilian composer, singer, and guitarist. He is a self-taught musician who began playing guitar at the age of 12. At 18, he moved to Recife to study and met several influential musicians, including Teca Calazans, Naná Vasconcelos, Marcelo Melo, and Toinho Alves, becoming part of the folk group "Construção." In 1967, he relocated to Rio de Janeiro, where he collaborated with singer Eliana Pittman. Azevedo founded Quarteto Livre and accompanied singer Geraldo Vandré in various performances. In 1968, Eliana Pittman recorded "Aquela Rosa," a composition by Azevedo. In the early 1970s, he formed a duo with Alceu Valença. Their participation in the Festival Universitário of TV Tupi, with Azevedo's compositions "78 Rotações" and "Planetário," garnered attention from Copacabana Records, leading to the release of their first LP in 1972.
