Gerri Hall, born in New Orleans, began her music career in the 1950s with Huey "Piano" Smith & the Clowns, featuring on the original recording of "Rockin' Pneumonia" for Ace Records. She continued with Ace into the 1960s, releasing several singles and achieving regional Christmas hits. Hall was active in the New Orleans music scene, providing backing for Earl King at Imperial and performing live with artists like Smiley Lewis and Benny Spellman. In addition to her work with Ace, which included the single "What I Learned About You," she released singles for Atco and Hotline, and earned a spot on the mid-'60s television soul showcase The !!!! Beat. Later, she transitioned from solo work to become one of Ray Charles' Raeletts. In the 1990s, her contributions were featured in various soul anthologies, including West Side Records' The First Take Is the Deepest.
