Gerry And The Holograms is a situationist-indebted masked art-rock studio duo from England, created by Manchester's CP Lee, known for his work with Albertos Y Lost Trios Paranoias, and producer John Scott, who is recognized for his excursions in electronica. The duo served as a front for various musical shenanigans. Initially, their first single was their only recorded output for a long time, until more material was discovered in 2017. Their second single was a conceptual anti-record, designed to be unplayable, following the situationist art tradition. Each record was glued into its picture sleeve, rendering the disc completely unplayable, even if one managed to tear it free, as the glue destroyed the grooves in the process. This concept rivaled the work of Peter Saville and the Durutti Column’s Debordist sandpaper re-hash by at least three years. The duo emerged from the electronic remnants of Manchester’s first genuine psychedelic band, evolved through Vertigo commissioned prog and experimental theatre, and was shaped by the musical mind behind significant vinyl moments from Martin Hannett, John Cooper Clarke, and Jilted John. The discography of Gerry And The Holograms remains an idiosyncratic and enigmatic pivotal post-punk artifact from the first electronic entrenchment of pop. In 1982, the duo reappeared alongside other artists.
