Gerry Rafferty was a Scottish guitarist, singer, and songwriter, born on April 16, 1947, in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He was best known for his solo hits "Baker Street," "Right Down the Line," and for his work with the band Stealers Wheel, particularly the song "Stuck in the Middle with You." Raised in a working-class family, Rafferty's mother introduced him to both Irish and Scottish folk songs during his childhood, and he later drew influence from The Beatles and Bob Dylan. In 1969, he joined the folk-pop band The Humblebums, which featured Billy Connolly, but left in 1971 to release his first solo album, "Can I Have My Money Back." In 1972, he and Joe Egan formed the group Stealers Wheel, achieving several hits together. Rafferty's second solo album, "City to City," released in 1978, included "Baker Street," which became his most popular song and a staple on the radio. Gerry Rafferty passed away at the age of 63 on January 4, 2011, at his daughter's home in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, due to liver and kidney problems.
