Gilberto Amaro do Nascimento, known as Giba Giba, was a Brazilian percussionist and singer-songwriter born on December 6, 1940, in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. He passed away on February 3, 2014, in Porto Alegre, RS. Giba Giba gained recognition for playing a unique type of drum called "sopapo." He was also a cultural activist involved with black movements and was one of the founders and the first president of an organization in Porto Alegre.
